Communication Summit: Work in Hollywood

 What did you learn?

    To start things off, I actually did not stay for the entire thing. I was part of the virtual meeting for a little more than an hour. Unfortunately, I either was kicked or lost connection to the meeting, and I was not able to reconnect. However, during my time in the meeting, I did learn a few interesting things. A great deal of the speakers times was used explaining his career in Hollywood. He wasn't and actor, but he worked for multiple studios and networks. The two that I mainly remember were HBO and Nickelodeon. This is the odd thing; as one is a kids network while the other is a adult network. I think that is why it stuck in my memory and caught my attention. One of his main topics that he spoke about was how to capture an audience. He talked about kids shows that he worked on Nickelodeon and how the network and many of the shows went out of their way to slip in entertainment pieces in children's shows. We of course know this as hidden sex jokes or puns, along with a mixture of mischievous behavior and hinted ideas and concepts. The point of this though was how many adults actually begin enjoying kids shows, especially when they are included in the content.

What did it make you think about tangentially?

    The closest thing that I thought about would be actual life in Hollywood. I mainly leaned towards the more celebrity life style of Hollywood, but the speaker came from a normal background, and it reminded me that there were normal people in Hollywood everyday. Other than that, there wasn't much thought about the subject other than just listening to his career life.

What did this spark you to commit to doing in the future?

    The greatest thing that I got out of this speaker was how much experience that he had, along with how he followed what he deemed to be his calling. From his stories, he seemed happy and content with what he was doing. He got to see excitement, mystery, actions, and fantasy come to life both on and behind the screens. That is what really got to me. To leap forward and reach for that special something. It can be a talent, skill, or mindset, but it is truly the uniqueness in you.
